Transcription of The Stock Network Interview with Lux Copper (ASX:LUX), CEO Dr James Warren
Lel Smits: Lux Copper has hit the ground running following its successful ASX listing, with exploration now underway at its flagship Baird Copper project in Alaska. The company has completed its maiden geophysical survey, mobilised drill rigs to site, and remains on track to begin its first drilling campaign in mid-August, targeting a region known for hosting world-class copper discoveries. I’m joined today by CEO Dr James Warren to discuss the company’s start as an ASX-listed company, the significance of the Baird project, and also what investors can expect as drilling gets underway.
James, welcome to The Stock Network.
James Warren: Hi Lel, thanks for having me and good to be here.
Lel Smits: Pleasure to have you on, congrats on your recent debut.
And look, the company has very quickly progressed from listing to exploration. You’ve got surveys complete, drilling about to begin. Can you outline really what this momentum says about the company’s strategy? Also, why you think it’s just such an important stage for Lux?
James Warren: Yeah, I suppose it signals a sort of a highly focused, capital-efficient, aggressive exploration strategy, which is what we’re all about.
And now, as far as what it signals to the company and the broader investment network, is we’re not just operational progression, but it’s a transition period for the company’s risk profile, where you go from speculation and potential valuation to results-driven valuation. Now, in terms of looking closer at your projects, the flagship Baird Copper project in Alaska, it sits within Alaska’s highly prospective Ambler Mining District, which is of course known for major copper discoveries.
Lel Smits: What do you think makes this project really so exciting for you?
James Warren: Yeah, well, you mentioned the Ambler Mining District, and we know from a geological standpoint that we’re in a good geological domain to find tier one and world-class ore bodies, and there are examples of that close to our project.
So that in itself is exciting. We know we’re in the right district from a more zoomed in scale. We know that there’s been some historical work completed there, and it’s only fairly sparse.
Early indications indicate or suggest that there’s a potential for a significant ore body there, and it just needs some time and exploration focus put into it to really unravel and unlock what could be a very exciting copper prospect.
Lel Smits: And James, with drilling about to commence and also exploration gathering pace, what are you hoping to learn from these maiden drilling campaign?
James Warren: Initially, we hope to validate what was historically completed. Some work has been done 20 years ago, and the previous work to that was sort of 60 years ago.
So it’s important for us just to make sure what we believe is there is there. And then from that, we can really build on the scale and size of what we believe is a much larger system. So the drilling has really been focused over about a 400 or 500 metre strike length, whereas we know there’s anomalism and mineralisation over two to three kilometres.
So we’re going to go from the smaller and take it into the larger picture in this program.
